Nokia will remember this year’s Diwali for a long time. Last Thursday they managed to sell 400,000 units in a single day all over India. This is one remarkable feat and is not achieved anywhere in the world – not even on a Chinese new year. So how did they manage to do it? The following reasons will help to justify:

- Nokia offers 38 models in India out of which most number of models fall in the lower-end segment.
- Cell phones are now considered as a necessity rather than a luxurious item.
- 70% of phones sold in rural and semi-urban areas were low-end phones which starts from Rs. 2000 (approx. $45).
- Competitors like Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung have a small range of entry level phones.
