    Apple unveils iPhone 2.0

    10th June 2008

Apple is all over the news. The reason behind it is the announcement of the much awaited iPhone 2.0. The new iPhone cans away the aluminum finish on the back and now sports an all new black or white finish. The main highlight of the upgraded version is of course, the 3G support and the inclusion of assisted GPS. The battery life is expected to last around 5 hours on a 3G network or 10 hours on 2G. The 8GB will retail at $199 and 16GB at $299 with a two year contract with AT&T. Read here for the complete list of operators along with the availability dates.

Future is Solar for Apple products

    28th May 2008

MacRumors has discovered a new patent from Apple which involves the use of solar panel to power its portable devices. Just imagine, we wouldn’t have to keep our iPods, iPhones for charging as it can be done on the go.

Solar panels, however, take unnecessary space which makes it difficult to integrate it on the device. But Apple is supposedly worked out a solution for that too. They have placed the panels behind the LCD screen so that the look of the device does not change and also the light passes through the LCD.

Apple’s Macbook Air is the thinnest notebook

    16th January 2008

    MBA front

Apple unveiled the world’s thinnest notebook yesterday at the Macworld 2008. Dubbed as Macbook Air (MBA), it is just about 2cm thick and weighing 3 pounds. I don’t know why the name “Air” because it ain’t that light but despite the thin design, Apple has not compromised on the performance. MBA is a 13.3″ wonder which comes with stock configuration of 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM, 80GB HDD, Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor, iSight, micro-DVI, 802.11n, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.

The standard MBA (mentioned above) is priced at $1799. There’s also an upgradation available in terms of processor (1.8GHz Core 2 Duo) and storage (64GB SSD) but this will cost you a bomb ($3098). And lastly, because of the slim design, Apple has chucked out the built-in optical drive but are selling external USB optical drive at $99.

App makes iPhone to record videos

    15th December 2007

Here’s one more app to spice up your iPhone. If you have already jailbroke your device, you can record videos from the iPhone cam with the help of an app developed by Drunknbass. The application is still in the beta stage and can record only 10 seconds of video at just 10FPS. But as per the developer, he is now working on making unlimited recording feasible with more than 30FPS.

Download the beta application from here.

iPhone launches in UK. Does anyone know?

    10th November 2007

    carphone_warehouse_wimbledo.jpg

So the Jesus Phone aka iPhone went on sale yesterday in Europe. And with all the buzz and hype that was created prior to the launch seemed fruitless. Atleast in UK. The phone is currently selling at Carphone Warehouse, Apple Stores and O2 stores but there was hardly any rush to buy it.

Is it a silent protest for demanding an unlocked iPhone?

Want an iPhone? But conditions apply

    28th October 2007

    applestore.jpg

Next time you head over to an Apple Store to buy iPhones for your whole family you may have to return empty handed. According to the new rules laid by Apple, a person wanting to buy an iPhone would need a credit or debit card to complete the transaction which means that cash sales are barred. Another change is that an individual is now allowed to buy only 2 iPhones as compared to the earlier 5.

So is Apple trying to be snobbish by imposing such restrictions? To an extent yes, but the main reason cited was that they want to restrict unauthorized resellers who sell unlocked iPhones and also to keep the demand and supply in control.

Will such conditions deter the reseller to get a number of handsets? I don’t think so. They may find a new way to circumvent this.

UPDATE: One of the reader at Engadget points out that they are not accepting gift cards too.
