In a recent research conducted by Loughborough University, it has been found that Nokia mobile phones are the most frequently stolen handsets. Nokia 6230 was the most stolen one, accounting to 15.4% of all the phones. Second was the Samsung D500 with 8.2% and followed by Motorola RAZR with 5.4%.

Nokia: 55,783 (49%)

Samsung: 15,524 (13.6%)

Sony Ericsson: 15,090 (13.3%)

Motorola: 12,947 (11.4%)

Others: 14,451 (12.7%)

The reason about Nokia taking almost half of the stolen mobile phones market could be its higher resale value then its counterparts.

  1. [...] (vía tech ticker) [...]

  2. Surely they have serial numbers which would let the mobile operators know who has a phone
