UPDATE: The recall has been announced worldwide which makes the total count of recalled notebooks to 440,000 units.

Not a good news for Sony VAIO users. Sony USA has recalled around 73,000 units from the VAIO-TZ series fearing of overheating. The recalled notebooks include from the VAIO VGN-TZ100, VGN-TZ200, VGN-TZ300 and VGN-TZ2000 series which have irregular positioned wires near the computer’s hinge and/or a dislodged screw inside the hinge causing it to overheat or even short circuit. The affected laptops were sold from July 2007 through August 2008 for between $1,700 and $4,000 and is advisable to contact Sony if you’re using any of the same models.
